Scala Bed and Beyond

After staying in the Seminyak area of Bali we moved to Scala Bed and Beyond for four nights. Scala is a bit north of the Canggu area of Bali and allows for some seclusion and quiet that is hard to find in the heart of Canggu.

If you were driving down the street, you would never know that what stood behind beautiful wooden doors was a contemporary, sleek, and minimalist hotel. The grey and wood embellished structure is beautifully decorated with greenery and modern furniture. Our check-in process was almost non-existent as the receptionist knew to expect us and had our key waiting. We walked into our room and felt right at home. The room was equipped with a desk, accent chair, a closet with hangers and had plenty of space for two people.

Any time we wanted to go into the main area of Canggu we could easily catch a ride and be there in about 15 minutes, depending on traffic of course, if you know Bali, traffic is a guarantee. The reason we decided to stay on the outskirts of town was due to the congestion in the more touristy areas of Bali. Staying at Scala allowed us to be close enough, but also get to see local life and get a quiet night’s sleep.

Each morning we woke up looking forward to our breakfast at the hotel. Did I mention it was included with our stay - how can you go wrong? Hotel breakfasts can sometimes be a miss but we never got sick of our usual; scrambled eggs, 2 pieces of toast, fresh fruit, cold juice and hot coffee. At lunchtime we could easily walk to a selection of vegan, westernized cafes or ‘warungs’ (local food restaurants).

This hotel is great for couples, solo or business travelers, and families. It’s more of a boutique hotel and allows for an intimate atmosphere. We would definitely recommend staying here for someone who is looking to relax and have a peaceful lay by the pool or someone who wants to mix in with the bustle of the town without the noise at night.
